Safeguarding Policies →Our kids programme focuses on BJJ and martial arts fundamentals for children aged 4–15, led by a dedicated three-coach team: Louise Stevens, Frankie Winter, and Marcus Gayle. This exceptional coach-to-student ratio means every child gets individual attention, feedback, and encouragement in every session.
The programme is split into age-appropriate groups to ensure each child is challenged at the right level. Classes blend BJJ grappling fundamentals with broader martial arts skills, teaching children a well-rounded base. The focus is always on technique, discipline, and fun, in that order.

Louise Stevens leads the programme and also serves as Zilla Training's designated Safeguarding Officer. Her dual role means child welfare is always the priority: both on and off the mat. Louise's coaching is patient, structured, and focused on building each child's confidence alongside their technique.
Frankie Winter brings energy and enthusiasm to every session, with a particular talent for making complex grappling concepts accessible and fun for younger children. His ability to connect with kids keeps them engaged and excited to come back.
Marcus Gayle completes the team with a calm, encouraging coaching style that is especially effective with children who are newer to martial arts or less confident. His focus on making every child feel included and valued is a cornerstone of the programme's reputation.
A glimpse into our Kids BJJ programme, focused on building confidence, skills, and discipline on the mat.
The benefits of martial arts training for children extend well beyond the gym. Our members consistently report improvements in school performance, confidence in social situations, ability to handle conflict non-physically, and general resilience. These are the real outcomes: the grappling and martial arts technique is just the vehicle.
Our classes also develop genuine physical fitness: coordination, agility, strength, and cardiovascular endurance, all through activities that children actually enjoy and look forward to each week.
All contact is age and experience appropriate. Children learn techniques through partner drills with controlled contact. Sparring is introduced gradually and only when the coaches are satisfied a child is technically ready. With three coaches on the mat, every child is closely supervised at all times. Louise's role as Safeguarding Officer adds an additional layer of assurance for parents: Zilla takes child welfare seriously at every level.
